It is narrated from al-Qasim bin Abi Bazzah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent word of her divorce to Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her). She said (in surprise): "Out of all his wives, has he (peace and blessings be upon him) divorced only me?" Then she sat on the path of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that led to the house of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by, she said: "I implore you by the great One who sent down the Book upon you and chose you over all creation: did you divorce me because of some displeasure or grievance that you felt in your heart toward me?" Then she said again: "I implore you by the One who sent down the Book upon you and chose you over all creation to take me back, for by Allah, I have now grown old and I have no need of men; but my heartfelt wish is that when I am raised on the Day of Resurrection, I am counted among your pure wives." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took her back, and Sayyidah Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Then I have certainly given my day and my night of turn to the coolness of the eyes of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)."
Musnad Ishaq bin Rahwayh: 4114; its chain is mursal, because al-Qasim bin Abi Bazzah is a Successor (Tabi'i) and did not hear directly from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); however, the basis of this incident is established by other reliable hadith and reports.
