قَالَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ ابْنُ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عُمَيْرٍ ، مَوْلَى بَنِي عَدِيٍّ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ ؟ قِيلَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، وَمَنْ يُطِيقُ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنَامَ ؟ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَقْرَأُ : قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ وَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ وَ قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Is any one of you unable to recite a third of the Qur'an before he sleeps?" It was said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who has the ability to recite a third of the Qur'an before sleeping? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever recites 'Say: He is Allah, the One' [Surah al-Ikhlas: 1], 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak' [Surah al-Falaq: 1] and 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind' [Surah al-Nas: 1], it is as if he has recited a third of the Qur'an."
Imam al-Tayalisi recorded it in his Musnad; the narrator Muhammad bin Abi Humayd in its chain is weak; however, the virtue of Surah al-Ikhlas and its being equal to a third of the Qur'an are established by other reliable and sahih hadith.

وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ : حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُكَيْنٍ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ أَبِي أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، - أَوْ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَنْ قَرَأَ : قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ .
3791 \ 2 - حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ الصَّفَّارُ ، عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا - يَرْفَعُهُ ، قَالَ : مَنْ قَرَأَ قُلْ هُوَ اللهُ أَحَدٌ فَكَأَنَّمَا قَرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ ، وَكُتِبَ لَهُ حَسَنَاتٌ بِعَدَدِ مَنْ آمَنَ وَمَنْ أَشْرَكَ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) (or a Companion from the Ansar) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever recites 'Say: He is Allah, the One' [Surah al-Ikhlas: 1], it is as if he has recited a third of the Qur'an."

وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ : حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، أَنَا الْعَلَاءُ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ الثَّقَفِيُّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - ... فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فِي قِصَّةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ اللَّيْثِيِّ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - ، وَصَلَاةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِتَبُوكَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he related the story of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Mu'awiyah al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) and the incident of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offering the funeral prayer for him on the occasion of the expedition of Tabuk.
