قَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، ثَنَا سَيْفٌ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ مُجَاهِدًا ، يَقُولُ : بَيْنَمَا ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا - جَالِسًا فِي حَوْضِ زَمْزَمَ ، وَالنَّاسُ يَسْأَلُونَهُ ، إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ ، فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ : وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ فَسَكَتَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - ، فَلَمَّا ثَوَّبَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ - أَوْ نَادَى الْمُنَادِي - قَالَ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - : أَيْنَ السَّائِلُ عَنِ : اللَّيْلِ إِذَا أَدْبَرَ ؟ قَالَ : قَدْ دَبَرَ اللَّيْلُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he was sitting by the well of Zamzam and people were asking him questions of knowledge, when a man came and asked him about the saying of Allah Almighty "And by the night when it departs" [Surah al-Muddaththir: 33], at which he (may Allah be pleased with him) remained silent. Then when the mu'adhdhin raised the call to prayer, or the caller called out, he (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "Where is the man who asked about 'And by the night when it departs'?" Then, explaining its meaning, he (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The night has turned its back and departed."

وَقَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَنَا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ ، ثَنَا ابْنُ صَمْعَةَ ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ حَبِيبَةَ - أَوْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ - ، قَالَتْ : كُنَّا فِي بَيْتِ عَائِشَةَ ، فَدَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمَيْنِ يَمُوتُ لَهُمَا ثَلَاثَةٌ مِنَ الْوَلَدِ ، أَطْفَالٌ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا الْحِنْثَ ، إِلَّا جِيءَ بِهِمْ حَتَّى يُوقَفُوا عَلَى بَابِ الْجَنَّةِ ، فَيُقَالُ لَهُمُ : ادْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ أَنْتُمْ وَآبَاؤُكُمْ ، فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى : فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ فَعَقَّبَ ، قَالَ : نَفَعَتِ الْآبَاءَ شَفَاعَةُ أَوْلَادِهِمْ .
It is narrated from Habibah or Umm Habibah that she said: We were in the house of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in and said: "Any Muslim parents who lose three children who had not yet reached the age of sin, those children will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and made to stand at the gate of Paradise; then it will be said to them: Enter Paradise, you and your parents." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this saying of Allah Almighty: "So the intercession of the intercessors will not benefit them" [Surah al-Muddaththir: 48]. The narrator explained that here the intercession of the children benefited their parents.
