It is narrated from Musa bin Shaybah (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever goes to live in the desert and wilderness away from settlements for more than two months, this act of his is a'rabiyyah (the Bedouin way of life and deprivation of the benefits of settled life)."
This narration is mursal and its chain is weak.

It is narrated from Iyas bin Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "The period of temporary stay in the countryside or the desert is two months; so whoever stays there longer than that, this act of his will be called 'ta'arrub', that is, it will count as abandoning emigration and settled life and adopting the Bedouin life permanently once again."
This narration is mawquf and sahih (authentic).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever adopts desert-dwelling or village life becomes harsh-natured and coarse."
Imam Abu Ya'la also reported this same narration with his chain from Abu Bakr; and the hadith of As'as bin Salamah has already passed in the Book of Jihad.

The grandson of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his father that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) used to go to Tustar to visit his companions. He would stay there on the day of his arrival and the second day, and depart from there on the third day. The people would say to him: If only you would stay a little longer! To which he would say: "I heard my father say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade me (or he said: I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding) 'tana'ah' (settling permanently on kharaj land); so whoever stays three days in a kharaj town has adopted 'tana'ah', and I dislike staying there (beyond three days)."
Imam Abu Ya'la narrated this hadith in his Musnad, al-Hasan bin Sufyan in his Musnad, and Abu Nu'aym also with his chain.
