قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ زَائِدَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قِيلَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، أَيُّ الْإِيمَانِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " الصَّبْرُ وَالسَّمَاحَةُ " .

أَخْرَجَهُ مِنْ حَدِيثٍ طَوِيلٍ قَدْ أَخْرَجُوهُ مُفَرَّقًا إِلَّا هَذِهِ الْجُمْلَةَ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: O Messenger of Allah, which quality of faith is the most excellent and superior? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Adopting patience and generosity and forbearance (magnanimity)."
Its chain is hasan (good).

قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، ثَنَا عَبْدَةُ هُوَ ابْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِي رَجَاءٍ مُحْرِزِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ، عَنْ فُرَاتِ بْنِ سَلْمَانَ ، عَنْ مَيْمُونِ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا صَبَرَ أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ عَلَى جَهْدٍ إِلَّا أَتَاهُمُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِرِزْقٍ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no household that remains patient for three days through poverty, hunger and extreme hardship and difficulty, except that Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, provides them with the means of provision."

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ الْأَنْطَاكِيُّ ، ثَنَا بَقِيَّةُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ، عَنْ صَدَقَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ النَّاسَ الْيَوْمَ كَشَجَرَةٍ ذَاتِ جَنَاءٍ ، وَيُوشِكُ أَنْ يَعُودَ النَّاسُ كَشَجَرَةٍ ذَاتِ شَوْكٍ ، إِنْ نَافَرْتَهُمْ نَافَرُوكَ ، وَإِنْ تَرَكْتَهُمْ لَمْ يَتْرُكُوكَ ، وَإِنْ هَرَبْتَ مِنْهُمْ طَلَبُوكَ " قَالَ : قُلْتُ : وَكَيْفَ بِالْمَخْرَجِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ؟ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " تُقْرِضُهُمْ مِنْ عِرْضِكَ لِيَوْمِ فَقْرِكَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, people in this present age are like a tree laden with fruit and beneficial, but soon people will become like a thorny bush: if you show aversion and distance from them, they will treat you with hatred and sharpness; if you leave them to themselves, they will not leave you alone (from their evil); and if you try to flee from them, they will pursue you." The narrator said: I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Then what is the way of release and escape from such a trial-ridden situation? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Lend your honour (that is, your silence and patience over their foul speech and harm), entrusting it to Allah, so that it may be of use to you on the day of your utmost need and poverty (that is, the Day of Resurrection)."
Imam al-Tabarani narrated this hadith in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Sadaqah bin Abdullah al-Dimashqi, a da'if (weak) narrator, and moreover Baqiyyah bin al-Walid is a mudallis who did not state explicitly that he heard it, on account of which this narration is weak in its chain.
