It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever guards his tongue (keeps it under control), Allah Almighty will conceal his faults; whoever restrains his anger, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will withhold His punishment from him on the Day of Resurrection; and whoever presents his excuse (for his sins) before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will accept his excuse."
Imam Abu Bakr narrated this hadith, and Imam Abu Ya'la also reported it through him. Furthermore, Abu Musa narrated it likewise through Isa bin Shu'ayb al-Darir and al-Rabi' bin Sulaym al-Numayri, from Abu Umayr bin Anas, from his father (Sayyiduna Anas, may Allah be pleased with him). Also, Muhammad bin al-Muthanna narrated it through Abd al-Salam bin Hashim al-Bazzar and Khalid bin Burd al-Ijli, from his father, from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him).
