بَابُ الزَّجْرِ عَنْ السُّؤَالِ عما لَمْ يَقَعُ

قَالَ : إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو هِشَامٍ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا دَاوُدُ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ هُوَ الشَّعْبِيُّ ، قَالَ : سُئِلَ عَمَّارٌ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ مَسْأَلَةٍ ، فَقَالَ : كَانَ هَذَا بَعْدُ ؟ قَالُوا : لَا ، قَالَ : دَعُونَا حَتَّى يَكُونَ ، فَإِذَا كَانَ بَحَثْنَاهَا لَكُمْ .
هَذَا مَوْقُوفٌ رِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ ، وَهُوَ صَحِيحٌ إِنْ كَانَ الشَّعْبِيُّ سَمِعَ مِنْ عَمَّارٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ .

It is narrated from Amir al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about an issue, and he asked: "Has this happened yet?" The people said: No. He said: "Then leave us (from it) until it happens; when it does take place, we will research and investigate it for you."
This report is mawquf; its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), and it is sahih (authentic) provided that al-Sha'bi's hearing from Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) is established.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عَجْلَانَ ، عَنْ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : لَا تَعْجَلُوا بِالْبَلِيَّةِ قَبْلَ نُزُولِهَا ، فَإِنَّكُمْ إِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلُوا لَمْ يَنْفَكَّ الْمُسْلِمُونَ أَنْ يَكُونَ مِنْهُمْ مَنْ إِذَا قَالَ وُفِّقَ ، أَوْ قَالَ : سُدِّدَ ، وَإِنَّكُمْ إِنِ اسْتَعْجَلْتُمْ بِالْبَلِيَّةِ قَبْلَ نُزُولِهَا ذَهَبَ بِكُمُ السَّبِيلُ هَاهُنَا وَهَاهُنَا .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not hasten concerning a trial or calamity before it descends, for as long as you refrain from such haste, there will always be among the Muslims people of insight who, when they speak, will be granted correctness from Allah, or will be guided to what is true and right; but if you show impatience about a trial before it comes, you will stray here and there along various byways and wrong paths."
Takhrij: Sunan al-Darimi, hadith no. 3040; its chain is da'if (weak) because it is munqati' (broken), since Muhammad bin Ajlan's hearing from Imam Tawus is not established.

أَخْبَرَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، عَنِ الصَّلْتِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ طَاوُسًا عَنْ شَيْءٍ ، فَقَالَ : أَكَانَ هَذَا ؟ فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّ أَصْحَابَنَا أَخْبَرُونَا ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : لَا تَسْتَعْجِلُوا بِالْبَلِيَّةِ قَبْلَ نُزُولِهَا وَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ ، وَلَمْ يَرْفَعْهُ .

Al-Salt bin Rashid said: I asked Imam Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) about an issue, and he asked: "Has this (actually) happened?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Indeed our companions informed us from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: 'La tasta'jilu bil-baliyyah qabla nuzuliha' ('Do not hasten to seek a trial or calamity before it descends')." And the narrator mentioned similar words, but he did not narrate this report as marfu' (attributed) to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
