بَابُ مثل المؤمن

قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي سَمِينَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مَثَلُ النَّخْلَةِ ، إِنْ شَاوَرْتَهُ نَفَعَكَ ، وَإِنْ مَاشَيْتَهُ نَفَعَكَ ، وَإِنْ شَارَكْتَهُ نَفَعَكَ .
2915 \ 2 - حَدَّثَنَا سُوَيْدٌ هُوَ ابْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ ، نَحْوَهُ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: "The example of the believer is like that of the date palm: if you seek his counsel he benefits you, if you keep his company he benefits you, and if you enter into partnership with him (in any matter), he still benefits you."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded this hadith through the chain of Muhammad bin Isma'il bin Abi Saminah, Abd al-Rahman al-Muharibi, Layth and Mujahid; and Suwayd bin Sa'id also narrated something similar from Layth through Fudayl bin Iyad.

وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ ، عَنْ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْإِيمَانِ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الرَّأْسِ مِنَ الْجَسَدِ ، يَأْلَمُ الْمُؤْمِنُ لِأَهْلِ الْإِيمَانِ ، كَمَا يَأْلَمُ الْجَسَدُ لِمَا فِي الرَّأْسِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of a believer among the people of faith is exactly like the position of the head in the whole body: a believer feels the pain of the other people of faith and suffers for them just as the whole body feels grief and pain because of any ailment in the head."
Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah recorded this hadith; although Mus'ab bin Thabit in its chain is open to criticism, its content is reliable because it is established by other authentic hadith.
