بَابُ الزَّجْرِ عَنْ الاستطالة فِي عرض المسلم

قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الرِّبَا اثْنَانِ وَسَبْعُونَ بَابًا ، أَدْنَاهَا مِثْلُ إِتْيَانِ الرَّجُلِ أُمَّهُ ، وَأَرْبَى الرِّبَا اسْتِطَالَةُ الرَّجُلِ فِي عِرْضِ صَاحِبِهِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Usury (riba) has seventy-two (72) chapters or degrees; the least of them in sin is like a man committing fornication with his mother, and the greatest usury is a man's unjust attacking with his tongue upon the honour and dignity of his (Muslim) brother and humiliating him."
Takhrij and grading: Imam Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it in his al-Musannaf (22441), and Allamah al-Albani declared it sahih (authentic) on the basis of other supporting narrations. [Sahih al-Jami': 3537].

وَقَالَ الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ الْمُحَبَّرِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبَانَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنِ اغْتِيبَ عِنْدَهُ أَخُوهُ الْمُسْلِمُ ، فَنَصَرَهُ ، نَصَرَهُ اللهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ ، وَمَنْ تَرَكَ نُصْرَتَهُ وَهُوَ يَقْدِرُ عَلَيْهَا ، خَذَلَهُ اللهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ " .
2727 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْغَفَّارِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْعَبْدِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَحْوَهُ .
قُلْتُ : أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ هُوَ أَبَانُ الْمَذْكُورُ قَبْلَهُ .
2727 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْغَفَّارِ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْعَبْدِيِّ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَحْوَهُ .
قُلْتُ : أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ هُوَ أَبَانُ الْمَذْكُورُ قَبْلَهُ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever, in whose presence his Muslim brother is backbitten (spoken ill of behind his back), supports and defends him, Allah Almighty will help him in this world and the Hereafter; and whoever abandons helping and defending his brother while he has the power and ability to do so, Allah Almighty will forsake him, leaving him helpless and disgraced, in this world and the Hereafter."
Imam Abu Ya'la also recorded something similar with his chain from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him); I (Ibn Hajar) say: The narrator Abu Isma'il mentioned in this second chain is in fact the same Aban who was mentioned in the first chain.
