Warning against severing family ties

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The angels do not descend upon a people among whom there is one who severs ties of kinship (one who cuts off relatives)." The wording of another narration is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The mercy of Allah Almighty does not descend upon a people among whom there is one who severs ties of kinship." Hearing this, a man present in his (peace and blessings be upon him) gathering said: O Messenger of Allah, I have a maternal aunt with whom I am not on speaking terms (that is, I have cut off ties with her)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Get up, go to her and talk with her (and reconcile)."
(103) The hadith of Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed in the Book of Hajj.
Abu Bakr said: Hafs bin Ghiyath narrated this to us from Abu Idam al-Azdi, from Ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him).
Ahmad bin Mani' said: Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us from Abu Idam al-Azdi, from Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Mercy does not descend upon a people among whom there is one who severs ties of kinship."
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Abu Idam's name is Sulayman bin Yazid al-Muharibi, and Imam Bukhari recorded this hadith in his book "al-Adab al-Mufrad".
(104) The hadith of Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) has already passed in the Book of Zakah, in the chapter "Encouragement to give charity".

It is narrated from Suwayd bin Amir (may Allah have mercy on him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Keep the bond of kinship with your relatives fresh (with love and courtesy), even if it is only by means of a greeting of salam."
Its chain is hasan (good), except that it is mursal.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Kinship (rahim) is a branch attached to the hem of the power of Allah, the Most Merciful, which beseeches Allah Almighty for its right. Allah Almighty says: Are you not pleased that I join with My mercy whoever joins you, and cut off from My mercy whoever severs you? And whoever joins you has indeed joined Me, and whoever cuts you off has indeed cut off ties with Me."
Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah narrated this report in his Musnad; the narrator Musa bin Ubaydah al-Rabadhi in its chain is da'if (weak), but supporting reports on the virtue of maintaining kinship ties exist in the two Sahihs.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amir bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Lord of Might says: 'Indeed, kinship (rahim) is a branch attached to Me (that is, a root that issues from My attribute of the Most Merciful); so whoever keeps this tie joined, I too will join him (with My special mercy and favour); and whoever cuts it off, I too will cut him off (from My grace and bounty).'"
In the chain of this report, Asim bin Ubaydullah has been judged da'if (weak) due to weakness of memory; however, the basic content of this hadith is established and reliable because it is found in other sahih and authentic hadith.
