It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man of our tribe became seriously ill, and the physicians said that he would not recover except by cauterisation. So his family intended to cauterise him, but some of them said: No, not until we ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. So they consulted him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." Then the man recovered (without being cauterised). When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him (healthy), he asked: "Is this the man of such-and-such a family?" They said: Yes. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, if this man had been cauterised, people would certainly have said that it was only the cauterisation that cured him."
Mujalid is da'if (weak).

It is narrated from al-Ala bin Ziyad (may Allah have mercy on him) that a woman came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with her son, whose belly had swollen (from the disease of dropsy). She submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! My son is afflicted with this illness that you see; shall I cauterise him with fire?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not cauterise your son." The woman firmly resolved that she would not cauterise him. Then (by chance) a camel stumbled and fell on the child, or struck him hard (trampled him), so that his belly burst open and he recovered. The woman came again to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! I asked your permission to cauterise my son but you stopped me; then a camel passed by him and struck him or trampled him, so that his belly burst open, and now he is cured." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take note! Had I given you permission (to cauterise), you would surely have thought that it was the fire that cured him."
This narration is found in Musnad al-Harith (Zawa'id al-Haythami); however, since al-Ala bin Ziyad is a Successor, this narration is mursal (with the Companion omitted).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he related: "Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) expressed his firm resolve to me (that is, gave me an emphatic order) that I must certainly have myself cauterised (for treatment)."
The chain of this narration is sahih (authentic), and Imam Musaddad recorded it in his Musnad.

It is narrated from an Ansari Companion (may Allah be pleased with him) of Banu Salimah that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If there is a cure in any of the means by which you treat yourselves, then it is in the cut made by the cupper's lancet, or in a sip of honey, or in a branding with fire applied to the place of pain; and I myself do not like to be cauterised."
Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah recorded it, and its chain is of the hasan (good) grade.

Amr bin Murrah narrates from a shaykh, who narrates from an elder of his (whom he had not met), who said: I went with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) to visit Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) in his illness, and he had had himself cauterised (with fire because of his illness). So Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Abu Abdullah! Do you not know that we have been forbidden from this (cauterisation) and that it has been declared disliked for us?" At this Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "The trial and pain had grown very severe, and the physicians said that there was now no other remedy left for you except this." So Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said (because of his abstinence and piety): "I did not fear that someone as eminent as you would do this."
Imam Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi recorded this hadith in his Musnad (no. 1049). Because two narrators in its chain are unnamed, it is da'if (weak).
