It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna Umar al-Faruq (may Allah be pleased with him) sent this letter to his governors in Sham: "When you learn that the plague has been lifted, write to me about it." (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates:) Then I came to him while he was sleeping, and this account is from after his return from the place called Sargh. When he woke from his sleep, I heard him making this plea: 'Allahumma ighfir li ruju'i ila huna min Sargh' (O Allah, forgive me for my turning back from Sargh to here).
Imam Ishaq told us this narration through Abu Amir al-Aqadi from Hisham bin Sa'd; and Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah narrated this hadith in his Musannaf through Muhammad bin Bishr, Hisham bin Sa'd, Urwah and al-Qasim bin Muhammad, from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
