It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah and Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us. Then the narrator mentioned the full hadith, in which were also these words: "Whoever takes on the litigation of a group in support of a wrong, or helps them in it (that wrong), an angel descends to him giving him tidings of Allah's curse and of the Fire of Hell, in which he will abide forever, and what an evil destination it is. Whoever hastens to fulfil some need of an unjust ruler will be his companion in Hell. Whoever shows a ruler the way to injustice will be joined with Haman in Hell, and he and that ruler will both be among the most severely punished of people on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever strikes the face of a Muslim with even one slap, Allah Almighty will scatter his bones on the Day of Resurrection, then the Fire will be set upon him, and he will be raised in a state of being bound in collars and chains until he falls into the Fire. Whoever holds up a whip before an unjust ruler (to intimidate or to oppress), Allah Almighty will appoint for him a snake seventy thousand cubits long, which will be set upon him in the Fire of Hell, and he will remain there forever. Whoever slanders his brother before the ruler, Allah will nullify all his deeds; then if any hurt or harm reaches his brother because of it, Allah Almighty will place him (the slanderer) in Hell at the rank of Haman. Whoever takes on the post of 'irafah (chieftainship or headship) of a people will be held at the edge of Hell for a thousand years for every single day (of this world), and he will be brought to the Gathering with his hand bound to his neck; then if he established the command of Allah among those people, he will be released, and if he proved to be an oppressor, he will be cast down into the Fire of Hell to a distance of seventy years."
And in the same narration it is that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware! Allah Almighty, whose praise is most exalted, never does injustice, nor is there any possibility of injustice from Him, and He is lying in wait so that 'He may recompense those who do evil for what they did, and recompense those who do good with the best' [Surah al-Najm: 31]. So whoever does good does it for his own benefit, and whoever does evil, its burden is upon him; 'and your Lord is not in the least unjust to His servants' [Surah Fussilat: 46]."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of you should ever stand by a wronged person who is being killed, for when those present do not defend him, the curse descends upon them; and no one should ever stand by a wronged person who is being beaten, for when those present do not defend him, the curse descends upon them too."
This narration is from the book Musnad Ahmad bin Mani'; however, in its chain Husayn bin Qays al-Rahabi is a weak narrator.
