قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا حَيَّانُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ الْبَصْرِيِّ ، قَالَ : دُعِيَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ إِلَى خِتَانٍ فَأَبَى أَنْ يُجِيبَ ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّا كُنَّا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا نَأْتِي الْخِتَانَ ، وَلَا نُدْعَى إِلَيْهِ ".
It is narrated from Imam Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) was invited to a circumcision gathering, but he refused to go. When he was asked about this, he said: "In the blessed time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) we neither used to go to circumcision feasts nor were we invited to them."
وَحَدَّثَنَا جُبَارَةُ بْنُ الْمُغَلِّسِ ، ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ غُرَابٍ ، ثَنَا أَشْعَثُ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، أَنَّهُ دُعِيَ إِلَى طَعَامٍ ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَ قَالَ : " مَا هَذَا ؟ " قَالُوا : خِتَانُ جَارِيَةٍ . فَقَامَ وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ ، وَقَالَ : " هَذَا شَيْءٌ مَا دُعِينَا لَهُ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was invited to a meal. When he arrived, he asked: "What kind of gathering is this?" The people said: It is (a feast in celebration of) a girl's circumcision. On hearing this he (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and left without eating, and said: "This is something to which we were never invited in the blessed time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)."
