قَالَ عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ هَارُونَ الْوَاسِطِيُّ الْغَسَّانِيُّ ، ثَنَا فَائِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : وَاللهِ إِنَّا لَجُلُوسٌ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، إِذْ جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، أَهْلَكَنِي الشَّبَقُ وَالْجُوعُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا أَعْرَابِيُّ ، الشَّبَقُ وَالْجُوعُ ؟ " قَالَ : هُوَ ذَاكَ ، قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَاذْهَبْ ، فَأَوَّلُ امْرَأَةٍ تَلْقَاهَا لَيْسَ لَهَا زَوْجٌ فَهِيَ امْرَأَتُكَ " .
فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ : فَدَخَلْتُ نَخْلَ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ، فَإِذَا جَارِيَةٌ تَخْتَرِفُ فِي زِنْبِيلٍ ، فَقُلْتُ لَهَا : يَا ذَاتَ الزِّنْبِيلِ ، هَلْ لَكِ زَوْجٌ ؟ قَالَتْ : لَا ، قَالَ : انْزِلِي ، فَقَدْ زَوَّجَنِيكِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : فَنَزَلَتْ ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهَا إِلَى مَنْزِلِهَا ، فَقَالَتْ لِأَبِيهَا : إِنَّ هَذَا الْأَعْرَابِيَّ أَتَانِي وَأَنَا أَخْتَرِفُ فِي الزِّنْبِيلِ ، فَسَأَلَنِي : هَلْ لَكِ زَوْجٌ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : لَا ، فَقَالَ : انْزِلِي ، فَقَدْ زَوَّجَنِيكِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
فَخَرَجَ أَبُو الْجَارِيَةِ إِلَى الْأَعْرَابِيِّ ، فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ : مَا ذَاتُ الزِّنْبِيلِ مِنْكَ ؟ قَالَ : ابْنَتِي ، قَالَ : هَلْ لَهَا زَوْجٌ ؟ قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : فَقَدْ زَوَّجَنِيهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
فَانْطَلَقَتِ الْجَارِيَةُ وَأَبُو الْجَارِيَةِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَلْ لَهَا زَوْجٌ ؟ " قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اذْهَبْ ، فَأَحْسِنْ جِهَازَهَا ، ثُمَّ ابْعَثْ بِهَا إِلَيْهِ " .
فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو الْجَارِيَةِ فَجَهَّزَ ابْنَتَهُ ، وَأَحْسَنَ الْقِيَامَ عَلَيْهَا ، ثُمَّ بَعَثَ مَعَهَا بِتَمْرٍ وَلَبَنٍ . فَجَاءَتْ بِهِ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ ، وَانْصَرَفَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ ، فَرَأَى جَارِيَةً مُصَنَّعَةً ، وَرَأَى تَمْرًا وَلَبَنًا ، فَقَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ .
فَلَمَّا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ غَدَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَغَدَا أَبُو الْجَارِيَةِ عَلَى ابْنَتِهِ ، فَقَالَتْ : وَاللهِ مَا قَرُبَنَا وَلَا قَرُبَ تَمْرَنَا وَلَا لَبَنَنَا !
قَالَ : فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو الْجَارِيَةِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، فَدَعَا الْأَعْرَابِيَّ فَقَالَ : " يَا أَعْرَابِيُّ ، مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ أَلْمَمْتَ بِأَهْلِكَ ؟ " قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، انْصَرَفْتُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ ، وَدَخَلْتُ الْمَنْزِلَ وَإِذَا بِجَارِيَةٍ مُصَنَّعَةٍ ، وَرَأَيْتُ تَمْرًا وَلَبَنًا ، فَكَانَ يَجِبُ عَلَيَّ أَنْ أُحْيِيَ لَيْلَتِي إِلَى الصُّبْحِ - يَعْنِي شُكْرًا - فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا أَعْرَابِيُّ ، اذْهَبْ فَأَلِمَّ بِأَهْلِكَ ".
فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ : فَدَخَلْتُ نَخْلَ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ ، فَإِذَا جَارِيَةٌ تَخْتَرِفُ فِي زِنْبِيلٍ ، فَقُلْتُ لَهَا : يَا ذَاتَ الزِّنْبِيلِ ، هَلْ لَكِ زَوْجٌ ؟ قَالَتْ : لَا ، قَالَ : انْزِلِي ، فَقَدْ زَوَّجَنِيكِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : فَنَزَلَتْ ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهَا إِلَى مَنْزِلِهَا ، فَقَالَتْ لِأَبِيهَا : إِنَّ هَذَا الْأَعْرَابِيَّ أَتَانِي وَأَنَا أَخْتَرِفُ فِي الزِّنْبِيلِ ، فَسَأَلَنِي : هَلْ لَكِ زَوْجٌ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : لَا ، فَقَالَ : انْزِلِي ، فَقَدْ زَوَّجَنِيكِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
فَخَرَجَ أَبُو الْجَارِيَةِ إِلَى الْأَعْرَابِيِّ ، فَقَالَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ : مَا ذَاتُ الزِّنْبِيلِ مِنْكَ ؟ قَالَ : ابْنَتِي ، قَالَ : هَلْ لَهَا زَوْجٌ ؟ قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ : فَقَدْ زَوَّجَنِيهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
فَانْطَلَقَتِ الْجَارِيَةُ وَأَبُو الْجَارِيَةِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " هَلْ لَهَا زَوْجٌ ؟ " قَالَ : لَا ، قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اذْهَبْ ، فَأَحْسِنْ جِهَازَهَا ، ثُمَّ ابْعَثْ بِهَا إِلَيْهِ " .
فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو الْجَارِيَةِ فَجَهَّزَ ابْنَتَهُ ، وَأَحْسَنَ الْقِيَامَ عَلَيْهَا ، ثُمَّ بَعَثَ مَعَهَا بِتَمْرٍ وَلَبَنٍ . فَجَاءَتْ بِهِ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْأَعْرَابِيِّ ، وَانْصَرَفَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ إِلَى بَيْتِهِ ، فَرَأَى جَارِيَةً مُصَنَّعَةً ، وَرَأَى تَمْرًا وَلَبَنًا ، فَقَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ .
فَلَمَّا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ غَدَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَغَدَا أَبُو الْجَارِيَةِ عَلَى ابْنَتِهِ ، فَقَالَتْ : وَاللهِ مَا قَرُبَنَا وَلَا قَرُبَ تَمْرَنَا وَلَا لَبَنَنَا !
قَالَ : فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو الْجَارِيَةِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ ، فَدَعَا الْأَعْرَابِيَّ فَقَالَ : " يَا أَعْرَابِيُّ ، مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ أَلْمَمْتَ بِأَهْلِكَ ؟ " قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، انْصَرَفْتُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ ، وَدَخَلْتُ الْمَنْزِلَ وَإِذَا بِجَارِيَةٍ مُصَنَّعَةٍ ، وَرَأَيْتُ تَمْرًا وَلَبَنًا ، فَكَانَ يَجِبُ عَلَيَّ أَنْ أُحْيِيَ لَيْلَتِي إِلَى الصُّبْحِ - يَعْنِي شُكْرًا - فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا أَعْرَابِيُّ ، اذْهَبْ فَأَلِمَّ بِأَهْلِكَ ".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that: By Allah, we were sitting in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when suddenly a Bedouin came and said: "O Messenger of Allah! The intensity of desire and hunger have destroyed me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "O Bedouin! Is it desire and hunger (that have both worn you out)?" He said: Yes, that is the matter. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then go; the first woman you meet who has no husband, she is your wife." The Bedouin relates: Then I entered the palm grove of Banu al-Najjar and there I saw a girl picking dates into a basket. I said to her: "O lady of the basket! Do you have a husband?" She replied: "No." I said: "Come down, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has married me to you." He says: So she came down, and I went with her to her home. There she said to her father: "This Bedouin came to me while I was picking dates into the basket, and he asked me whether I had a husband. I said no, so he said: Come down, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has married me to you." So the girl's father came out to the Bedouin, and the Bedouin asked: "What is this lady of the basket to you?" He said: "She is my daughter." The Bedouin asked: "Does she have a husband?" He said: "No." The Bedouin said: "Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has married me to her." After that, the girl and her father came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him (peace and blessings be upon him) what had happened, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked (to confirm it): "Does she have a husband?" He said: "No." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered: "Go, prepare a fine wedding trousseau for her, then send her to him." So the girl's father went and prepared his daughter's trousseau, looked after her in the best way, and then sent dates and milk along with her. The girl took all of this and arrived at the Bedouin's house, and when the Bedouin returned to his house he saw an adorned bride and saw dates and milk; (seeing this, overwhelmed with gratitude) he stood up to pray. When true dawn broke, he went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and meanwhile the girl's father came to check on his daughter, and the daughter told him: "By Allah! He neither came near us, nor touched our dates and milk!" The narrator says: The girl's father came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him (peace and blessings be upon him) of this. He (peace and blessings be upon him) summoned the Bedouin and asked: "O Bedouin! What prevented you from going to your wife?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! When I left you and reached home, I found an adorned bride, dates and milk there, so (as thanks for these blessings) it was binding on me to keep my night alive (in worship) until morning." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Bedouin! Now go and be with your wife."
وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ ، ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ كِنَانَةَ بْنِ نُعَيْمٍ الْعَدَوِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : إِنَّ جُلَيْبِيبًا كَانَ امْرَأً مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ ، وَكَانَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ وَيَتَحَدَّثُ إِلَيْهِنَّ .
قَالَ أَبُو بَرْزَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : فَقُلْتُ لِامْرَأَتِي : اتَّقُوا ، لَا يَدْخُلَنَّ عَلَيْكُنَّ جُلَيْبِيبٌ ! قَالَ : وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَانَ لِأَحَدِهِمْ أَيِّمٌ لَمْ يُزَوِّجُوهَا حَتَّى يَعْلَمَ هَلْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهَا حَاجَةٌ أَوْ لَا .
فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ : " يَا فُلَانُ ، زَوِّجْنِي ابْنَتَكَ " ! قَالَ : نِعِمَّ ، وَنُعْمَةُ عَيْنٍ ! قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنِّي لَسْتُ لِنَفْسِي أُرِيدُهَا " ، قَالَ : فَلِمَنْ ؟ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لِجُلَيْبِيبٍ " . قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، نَسْتَأْمِرُ أُمَّهَا .
فَأَتَى فَقَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ ابْنَتَكِ ، قَالَتْ : نِعِمَّ ، وَنُعْمَةُ عَيْنٍ ! تُزَوِّجُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ! قَالَ : إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِنَفْسِهِ يُرِيدُهَا ، قَالَتْ : فَلِمَنْ ؟ قَالَ : لِجُلَيْبِيبٍ ، قَالَتْ : حَلْقَى ! أَلِجُلَيْبِيبٍ ؟ لَا ، لَعَمْرُ اللهِ لَا أَرْفَعُ جُلَيْبِيبًا .
فَلَمَّا قَامَ أَبُوهَا لِيَأْتِيَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتِ الْفَتَاةُ مِنْ خِدْرِهَا لِأَبَوَيْهَا : مَنْ خَطَبَنِي إِلَيْكُمْ ؟ قَالَا : رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : أَتَرُدُّونَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْرَهُ ؟ ادْفَعُونِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِنَّهُ لَنْ يُضَيِّعَنِي . فَذَهَبَ أَبُوهَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : شَأْنَكَ بِهَا ، فَزَوَّجَهَا جُلَيْبِيبًا .
قَالَ حَمَّادٌ : قَالَ لِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ قُلْتُ لِثَابِتٍ : هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا دَعَا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَهَا بِهِ ؟ قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ صُبَّ عَلَيْهِمَا الْخَيْرَ صَبًّا ، وَلَا تَجْعَلْ عَيْشَهُمَا كَدًّا كَدًّا !
قَالَ ثَابِتٌ : فَزَوَّجَهَا إِيَّاهُ .
* قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، وَتَابَعَهُ دَيْلَمُ بْنُ غَزْوَانَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، وَرِوَايَةُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ أَصَحُّ .
قَالَ أَبُو بَرْزَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : فَقُلْتُ لِامْرَأَتِي : اتَّقُوا ، لَا يَدْخُلَنَّ عَلَيْكُنَّ جُلَيْبِيبٌ ! قَالَ : وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا كَانَ لِأَحَدِهِمْ أَيِّمٌ لَمْ يُزَوِّجُوهَا حَتَّى يَعْلَمَ هَلْ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهَا حَاجَةٌ أَوْ لَا .
فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ : " يَا فُلَانُ ، زَوِّجْنِي ابْنَتَكَ " ! قَالَ : نِعِمَّ ، وَنُعْمَةُ عَيْنٍ ! قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنِّي لَسْتُ لِنَفْسِي أُرِيدُهَا " ، قَالَ : فَلِمَنْ ؟ قَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لِجُلَيْبِيبٍ " . قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، نَسْتَأْمِرُ أُمَّهَا .
فَأَتَى فَقَالَ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ ابْنَتَكِ ، قَالَتْ : نِعِمَّ ، وَنُعْمَةُ عَيْنٍ ! تُزَوِّجُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ! قَالَ : إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ لِنَفْسِهِ يُرِيدُهَا ، قَالَتْ : فَلِمَنْ ؟ قَالَ : لِجُلَيْبِيبٍ ، قَالَتْ : حَلْقَى ! أَلِجُلَيْبِيبٍ ؟ لَا ، لَعَمْرُ اللهِ لَا أَرْفَعُ جُلَيْبِيبًا .
فَلَمَّا قَامَ أَبُوهَا لِيَأْتِيَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتِ الْفَتَاةُ مِنْ خِدْرِهَا لِأَبَوَيْهَا : مَنْ خَطَبَنِي إِلَيْكُمْ ؟ قَالَا : رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتْ : أَتَرُدُّونَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْرَهُ ؟ ادْفَعُونِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَإِنَّهُ لَنْ يُضَيِّعَنِي . فَذَهَبَ أَبُوهَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ : شَأْنَكَ بِهَا ، فَزَوَّجَهَا جُلَيْبِيبًا .
قَالَ حَمَّادٌ : قَالَ لِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ قُلْتُ لِثَابِتٍ : هَلْ تَدْرِي مَا دَعَا صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَهَا بِهِ ؟ قَالَ : اللَّهُمَّ صُبَّ عَلَيْهِمَا الْخَيْرَ صَبًّا ، وَلَا تَجْعَلْ عَيْشَهُمَا كَدًّا كَدًّا !
قَالَ ثَابِتٌ : فَزَوَّجَهَا إِيَّاهُ .
* قُلْتُ : رَوَاهُ مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، وَتَابَعَهُ دَيْلَمُ بْنُ غَزْوَانَ ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، وَرِوَايَةُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ أَصَحُّ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Barzah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Julaybib (may Allah be pleased with him) was a man of the Ansar; he would often go into the gatherings of women and talk with them. So Sayyiduna Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to his wife: "Fear Allah, all of you; Julaybib must never enter upon you." It was the practice of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that when one of them had a widow or an unmarried girl, they would not marry her off until they knew whether the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had any need of her or not. One day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man of the Ansar: "O so-and-so! Marry your daughter to me." He said: "Excellent! This is a great honour for me and the coolness of my eyes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am not asking for her for myself." He asked: "Then for whom?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "For Julaybib." He said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Let me consult her mother." So he came (to his wife) and said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was seeking your daughter's hand. She said: "How blessed! What great good fortune to be related by marriage to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)!" He told her: "He is not asking for himself." She asked: "Then for whom?" He said: "For Julaybib." She cried out: "Alas! For Julaybib? No, by Allah! I will not accept Julaybib." When her father got up to go to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (to excuse himself), the girl asked her parents from her chamber: "Who has asked for my hand?" They told her that it was the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: "Are you rejecting the command of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Hand me over to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he will never let me come to ruin." So her father came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Do as you see fit," and so he (peace and blessings be upon him) married her to Sayyiduna Julaybib (may Allah be pleased with him). Hammad says: Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abi Talhah said to me that he asked Thabit: "Do you know what supplication the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made for this girl?" He said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated like this: 'Allahumma subba alayhima al-khayra sabban, wa la taj'al ayshahuma kaddan kaddan' (O Allah, pour goodness upon the two of them in abundant streams, and do not make their livelihood one of hardship and toil). Thabit says: He (peace and blessings be upon him) married them.
I (Ibn Hajar) say: Ma'mar narrated it from Thabit from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), and Daylam bin Ghazwan followed him in it with the chain Thabit from Anas, but this narration of Hammad bin Salamah (from Sayyiduna Abu Barzah (may Allah be pleased with him)) is more authentic.
