بَابُ فَضْلِ الْمَسْجِدِ النبوي
The virtue of the Prophet's Mosque

الْحَارِثُ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ، ثَنَا سَلَمَةُ بْنُ وَرْدَانَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَعِيدِ بْنَ الْمُعَلَّى ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : صَلَاةٌ فِي مَسْجِدِي خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَلْفِ صَلَاةٍ فِيمَا سِوَاهُ مِنَ الْمَسَاجِدِ ، إِلَّا الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَرَامَ .
Imam al-Harith narrated through Abu Sa'id bin al-Mu'alla from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A prayer in this mosque of mine is better than a thousand prayers in other mosques, except al-Masjid al-Haram."
وَقَالَ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، ثَنَا زِيَادُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَتِيقٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا - يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ - رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ - يَقُولُ : صَلَاةٌ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ مِائَةِ أَلْفِ صَلَاةٍ فِيمَا سِوَاهُ مِنَ الْمَسَاجِدِ ، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ : فَيَرَوْنَ أَنَّ الصَّلَاةَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ مِائَةِ أَلْفِ صَلَاةٍ فِيمَا سِوَاهُ مِنَ الْمَسَاجِدِ إِلَّا مَسْجِدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَإِنَّ فَضْلَهُ عَلَيْهِ بِمِائَةِ صَلَاةٍ .
Imam al-Humaydi narrated with his chain through Sayyiduna Ibn al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "One prayer in al-Masjid al-Haram is more virtuous than one hundred thousand prayers in other mosques." Sufyan said that the scholars hold that prayer in al-Masjid al-Haram is better than one hundred thousand prayers in all other mosques, except the Mosque of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (the Prophet's Mosque), for al-Masjid al-Haram has a superiority of one hundred prayers over it (the Prophet's Mosque).
