Itikaf

Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a man asked Qadi Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) about a woman who had vowed to observe i'tikaf in the mosque during Rajab of that particular year, while the situation was that Ziyad or Ibn Ziyad had prevented women from observing i'tikaf in the mosque. Qadi Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "I do not say that this prohibition is in any Book revealed by Allah, nor that it is mentioned in any established Sunnah of the past; rather, it is merely an (administrative) opinion. Let that woman fast Rajab of that year, and when she breaks her fast, let a poor person eat with her every day, or let her feed a poor person every night. In this way two acts of worship (fasting and charity) will be performed in place of one vow; and the truth is that 'Allah does what He wills' [Surah Ibrahim: 27]."
The chain of this narration is sahih, and it is mawquf on the words of Qadi Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him).

Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), was in i'tikaf when someone from her family fell ill, so she sought permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to visit him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hold the two posts of the door (from outside) and do not go inside."
This narration is mursal or mu'dal, though all its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy) and reliable.
