It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Ibrahim (peace be upon him) finished building the House of Allah, Allah Almighty commanded him: "And proclaim the Hajj among the people" [Surah al-Hajj: 27]. Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said: O Lord, how far can my voice possibly reach? Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: "You only call out; conveying it to the people is My responsibility." So Ibrahim (peace be upon him) called out: "O people, Hajj to this Ancient House (the House of Allah) has been made obligatory upon you." Every soul between the heavens and the earth heard this call. Do you not see that people still come, drawn to Hajj from every corner of the world, reciting the talbiyah 'Labbayk Allahumma labbayk' (Here I am, O Allah, here I am)?
This narration reflects the great miracle of how Allah Almighty spread the call of Khalil Allah (peace be upon him) through the expanses of the universe and granted it acceptance until the Day of Resurrection.
