بَابُ الْأَمْرِ بِالتَّنَفُّلِ فِي الْبُيُوتِ

قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ ، أَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، ثَنَا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : صَلُّوا فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ ، وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوهَا قُبُورًا ، وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوا بَيْتِي عِيدًا ، وَصَلُّوا عَلَيَّ وَسَلِّمُوا ، فَإِنَّ صَلَاتَكُمْ وَسَلَامَكُمْ تَبْلُغُنِي أَيْنَمَا كُنْتُمْ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform part of your prayers (that is, the voluntary prayers) in your homes as well, and do not make them graveyards (by not worshipping in them at all); and do not make my house (or my grave) a place of festival or fair (by making it a place of repeated gathering); and send blessings and peace upon me, for your blessings and peace reach me wherever (in the universe) you may be."
Takhrij: Imam Abu Ya'la narrated this hadith in his Musnad. The narrator Abdullah bin Nafi' al-Sa'igh in its chain has been criticised by the hadith scholars with regard to his memory; however, all parts of this hadith are established by other sahih and hasan supporting reports (such as Sunan Abi Dawud: 2042), on the basis of which this narration is acceptable as evidence.

حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ : هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، ثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ ، هُوَ الْأَحْمَرُ ، ثَنَا زِيَادٌ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي الثَّلَاثَةُ الرَّهْطُ الَّذِينَ سَأَلُوا عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَقَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : الْفَرِيضَةُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ، وَالتَّطَوُّعُ فِي الْبَيْتِ .
قُلْتُ : أَخْرَجَهُ ابْنُ مَاجَهْ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ .
قُلْتُ : أَخْرَجَهُ ابْنُ مَاجَهْ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ عَنْ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ .
Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from the group of three men who had asked Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) about praying in the mosque. They said that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The obligatory prayer is to be performed in the mosque, and the voluntary prayer should be prayed at home."
