It is narrated from Abd al-Aziz bin Ubaydullah bin Hamzah bin Suhayb that he said: I saw Wahb bin Kaysan prostrating on the place where the hair begins to grow, that is, the upper edge of the forehead, so I asked him about it, and he replied: "Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do so." And according to the narration of Abu Bakr, Abd al-Aziz said: I said to Wahb bin Kaysan: O Abu Nu'aym, why is it that you do not fully settle your forehead and nose on the ground? He said: The reason is that I heard Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying: "I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prostrating on the upper part of his forehead, that is, where the hair of the head begins to grow." And according to the narration of Abu Ya'la, it is reported from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both): "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to prostrate on that part of his forehead where the hair grows."
This chain is da'if (weak), and the chain before it has the same ruling.

It is narrated from al-Nu'man bin Abi Ayyash (may Allah have mercy on him): "The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) complained to him (peace and blessings be upon him) of the strain of putting their weight and leaning (on their hands) while prostrating, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) granted them a concession and permission to support themselves (when tired) by resting their elbows on their knees."
This report is mursal (the Successor narrates directly from the Prophet).

It is narrated from Abu al-Ahwas (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered us: "When we prostrate, we should spread our elbows and our forearms on the ground." Abu al-Ahwas said: Then I mentioned this to Imam Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him), and he said: "This is wrong."
Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded this athar in al-Musannaf (2749). Imam Tawus's word "kadhib" is used, according to the idiom of the Hijaz, in the sense of error and mistake, because spreading the forearms in prostration is contrary to the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his clear instructions.
