Making up missed prayers

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, concerning one who forgets to pray: "He should offer it as soon as he remembers it."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), and its basic supporting reports are also found in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was on that journey of his in which all the people remained asleep (overcome by sleep) until the sun rose upon them. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You were all dead (in the state of sleep), then Allah Almighty returned your souls to you. So whoever sleeps through a prayer should offer it as soon as he wakes up, and whoever forgets a prayer should pray it as soon as he remembers it."
Imam Abu Ya'la also transmitted this report via Zuhayr from al-Fadl bin Dukayn with the same chain.

It is narrated from Silah bin Zufar (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed me as his deputy. We prayed Zuhr, then we came to some people who were praying Zuhr, so we prayed with them as well. Then we prayed Asr, then we came to some people who were praying Asr, so we prayed with them as well. Then we prayed Maghrib, then we came to some people who were praying Maghrib, so we prayed with them as well (as a voluntary prayer). Then, when I was about to stand up for the third rak'ah in that second congregation of Maghrib, he held me back."
There is weakness in the chain of this report because of the presence of Layth bin Abi Sulaym, since he suffered from a decline of memory (ikhtilat) in his last years; however, the general concept of repeating the prayer to gain the virtue of congregation is established by other authentic hadith.

It is narrated from al-Nazzal bin Sabrah (may Allah have mercy on him) that "al-Walid bin Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people in prayer, so (because of some defect or reason in it) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people again and repeated that prayer."
The chain of this report is sahih (authentic), and Imam Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it in his book al-Musannaf, hadith no. 444.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever forgets a prayer and does not remember it until he is praying (another) prayer with the imam, let him complete that prayer of his with the imam; then, when he has finished that prayer, let him (first) pray the prayer he had forgotten, and then let him also repeat the prayer that he performed with the imam."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it in his Musnad (5621); there is criticism of its attribution to the Prophet (marfu') because of the narrator Sa'id bin Abd al-Rahman al-Jumahi in its chain, whereas this narration is established from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) as his own statement (mawquf) with an authentic chain.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out (on a journey); then, in the last part of the night, he (peace and blessings be upon him) halted to rest, and (overcome by sleep) he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not wake until the sun had risen. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) (to call the adhan); he called the adhan, and then he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed two rak'ahs (of Fajr).
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "Even having this world and all that is in it would not give me as much joy as this concession (and legal relief)."
