The virtue of keeping to the mosque

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best ribat (that is, guarding in the path of Allah and steadfastness in the religion) is waiting for one prayer after another and keeping to the gatherings of remembrance. And there is no servant who, after offering the prayer, remains sitting in his place of prayer, except that the angels continue to supplicate for good and forgiveness for him until he loses his ablution or gets up from there."
The chain of this hadith contains the narrator Muhammad bin Abi Humayd al-Madani, who is da'if (weak); however, there are supporting witnesses in other sahih hadith about waiting for the prayer and the angels seeking forgiveness.

Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from a Companion of the Messenger that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever remains sitting in his place of prayer, or enters a mosque solely for the prayer, the angels continually supplicate for him as long as he remains in his sitting place, so long as he does not lose his ablution: 'Allahumma ighfir lahu, Allahumma irhamhu' (O Allah, forgive him; O Allah, have mercy on him)."
Ata bin al-Sa'ib (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We came to Abu Abd al-Rahman Abdullah bin Habib when he was in the throes of death at his place of prayer. I said: How good it would be if you moved to your bed! He said: The one who heard it himself from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) narrated a hadith to me; then he mentioned the above hadith and added at the end: "So I want death to come to me while I am at my place of prayer."

It is narrated from Yunus bin Ubayd (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I asked Imam al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him), or he was asked: "What is your view of this saying: 'As long as the servant remains in his place of prayer, he is counted as being continually in prayer'?" I asked: "Does it mean that particular seat and spot where he offered the prayer?" He replied: "No, rather it means the whole mosque."
The chain of this narration is hasan (good); Imam Musaddad bin Musarhad narrated it in his Musnad.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) (in a narration not traced back to the Prophet) that he said: "There is no man who makes the mosques his settled abode (that is, becomes accustomed to staying there often for remembrance and worship), then an illness or some excuse prevents him from attending the mosque, and he then returns (having recovered) to the mosque, except that Allah Almighty shows joy and delight at his return (just as a family rejoices when a lost one or a traveller returns home)."
This narration is sahih as mawquf, and Ibn Abi Dhi'b also narrated it through Sa'id as marfu' (as a saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)), in a shorter form than this.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), as marfu', that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, will call out on the Day of Resurrection: 'Where are My neighbours?' The angels will say: 'Our Lord! Who is fit and worthy to have the honour of being Your neighbour?' Then Allah, Glorified and Exalted, will say: 'Where are those who filled the mosques?'"
Musnad al-Harith: 371. The scholars of hadith differ about the narrator Muhammad bin Atiyyah in its chain; however, the meaning of this narration is fully in accord with the other texts of the Shari'ah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those who fill the mosques of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, are indeed the people of Allah (that is, His close and special servants)."
Imam Abu Dawud, Abd bin Humayd, Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar narrated this hadith through the chain of Salih al-Murri by way of Thabit al-Bunani; and Imam al-Bazzar, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, stated explicitly: We do not know of anyone who narrated it from Thabit al-Bunani other than Salih al-Murri.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) that he advised his son, saying: "O my dear son! Let your house be the mosque (that is, make your bond with the mosque as strong as one's bond with one's home), for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: 'Indeed, the mosques are the houses of the God-fearing; so whoever makes the mosques his whole life, Allah Almighty grants him full assurance and guarantee of ease and tranquillity, His special mercy, and passing safely over the Sirat to reach Paradise.'"
The chain of this narration contains an unnamed narrator ("a man"); however, other hadith of this meaning are found in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir of al-Tabarani and Shu'ab al-Iman of al-Bayhaqi, which support its meaning.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are six gatherings or places such that whenever a Muslim is present in any one of them, he is under the guarantee and protection of Allah Almighty: being in the path of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic (in jihad or good), or being in a mosque where the prayer is offered in congregation, or being with a sick person to visit him, or following a funeral, or staying in his house (to remain safe from trials), or being with a just and equitable ruler to support and aid him and to show him honour and respect."
Imam Abd bin Humayd said: Abdullah bin Yazid al-Muqri narrated this narration to us with the same chain.
Imam al-Bazzar said: Muslim narrated this hadith to us from Abdullah bin Yazid with the same chain.
