Yazid al-Raqashi narrates from a woman of his people that whenever she went for Hajj she would visit the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her). She said: I said to her, "Show me the vessel in which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution!" So she brought out that vessel and showed it, whereupon I said (seeing its capacity), "This is the makkuk of the mufti (that is, a particular measure according to the legal ruling)." Then I said, "Show me also the vessel in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to take the ritual bath (ghusl)?" So she brought out that vessel too and showed it, whereupon I said, "This is the qafiz of the mufti, and it is the qadah of the shuttar (that is, a large bowl in use among the brisk, active travellers of Iraq)." There is criticism regarding the chain of this hadith, because the narrator named Yazid is da'if (weak), and the circumstances of the woman mentioned in it are also not known.

Yazid al-Raqashi narrates from a woman of his people that she said: I visited the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), and said, Show me (the vessels used by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)). Then the narrator mentioned the whole hadith, in which it is mentioned that Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said about the vessel for the ritual bath: "This is a makhtum," meaning a vessel with the capacity of one sa'; and she said about the vessel for ablution: "This is a quarter of the mufti (a measure of that name)," meaning that its capacity is equal to one mudd. There is some weakness in the chain of this hadith.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution from a kuz of water (that is, a small vessel of clay or metal)." The chain of this narration is hasan (good).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) "performed ablution with half a mudd (a specific measure of water, which comes to half of what fills both palms of an average person)," and there is criticism (jarh and weakness), from a technical standpoint, regarding the chain of this hadith.
