وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ ، عَنِ الصَّلْتِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " تَوَضَّأَ بِنِصْفِ مُدٍّ " .
وَفِي إِسْنَادِهِ مَقَالٌ .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) "performed ablution with half a mudd (a specific measure of water, which comes to half of what fills both palms of an average person)," and there is criticism (jarh and weakness), from a technical standpoint, regarding the chain of this hadith.
