قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - قَالَتْ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، إِنَّ لِفُلَانٍ نَخْلَةً فِي حَائِطِي ، فَمُرْهُ فَلْيَبِعْهَا ، أَوْ لِيَهَبْهَا لِي . قَالَ : فَأَتَى الرَّجُلُ النَّبِيَّ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَقَالَ : افْعَلْ ، لَكَ بِهَا نَخْلَةٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ ، فَأَبَى ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : هَذَا أَبْخَلُ النَّاسِ .
It is narrated from a Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her) that a man came into the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, a certain person has a date palm within the boundaries of my orchard; command him to sell it to me or gift it to me. So that man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Do so, and in exchange for it you will have a date palm in Paradise." But he refused. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This man is the greatest miser among people."
