قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ ، قَالَتْ : سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - شَيْئًا فَلَمْ يَتَيَسَّرْ ، فَقَالَتْ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، عِدْنِي ، قَالَ - صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : الْعِدَةُ عَطِيَّةٌ .
Al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from a female Companion (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for something, but it could not be obtained at that time. So I said: O Messenger of Allah, promise it to me. At this he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Making a promise is itself a kind of gift and bounty."
