Imam Ishaq bin Rahwayh (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated, through Waki', Hisham and Fatimah bint al-Mundhir, that Sayyidah Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) used to pay Sadaqat al-Fitr on behalf of all those members of her family whom she supported and was responsible for, and these included the young and the old, those present and those absent (travelling).
Explanation: According to the imams, this narration is evidence that the head of the household should pay the Fitr charity on behalf of all his dependants, so that it provides purification for the fasts and relief for the needs of the poor.
