It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As long as I am present among you, no one other than me should lead the prayer over your funerals."
There is criticism of the chain of this hadith because of the narrator Muhammad bin Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Layla. This narration indicates the prohibition of anyone else leading the funeral prayer in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during his (peace and blessings be upon him) worldly life, so that the people of Islam could obtain the blessing of his (peace and blessings be upon him) supplication and intercession.
