Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 750 — The prayer for rain

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I went out from Madinah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards it and said: "Indeed, Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, has freed this peninsula (the Arabian Peninsula) from shirk, but I fear for these people that the stars will lead them astray." The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: O Messenger of Allah! How will the stars lead them astray? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(In that) rain comes down and they say: 'Mutirna bi-naw'i kadha' (We were given rain by the rising or setting of such-and-such a star)."
Imam Abu Ya'la recorded, through another chain, a narration from Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has purified this town (meaning Madinah) of shirk, except for the fear that the stars will lead them away from the path of truth."
