قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ : حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسٌ - هُوَ ابْنُ الرَّبِيعِ - عَنْ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ الطَّائِفِيِّ ، عَنْ أَوْسٍ الثَّقَفِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قَدِمْنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَنْفَتِلُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ ، وَعَنْ يَسَارِهِ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Aws al-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I saw that he (peace and blessings be upon him), (after completing the prayer,) would turn his blessed face and turn away from his right side, and would also turn away from his left side."
Takhrij and grading: Sunan Abi Dawud: 1042. Allamah al-Albani (may Allah have mercy on him) declared its chain da'if (weak) because of the poor memory of Qays bin al-Rabi'; however, the practice of turning away from both the right and the left side is established by other sahih (authentic) hadith.
