It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on "Laylat al-Jinn" (the night the jinn came to him). I heard those jinn asking him about the legal ruling on istinja (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself), and I heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Three stones (are sufficient)." They said: What is the ruling on using water? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That (water) is far purer and cleanses most thoroughly."
