أَخْبَرَنَا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : أَلَا وَإِنَّ رَحَى الْإِيمَانِ دَائِرَةٌ ، فَدُورُوا مَعَ الْكِتَابِ مِنْ حَيْثُ يَدُورُ ... الْحَدِيثَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Listen! The millstone of faith is indeed (constantly) turning, so stay with the Book of Allah and go in whichever direction it takes you."
Al-Tabarani recorded this hadith in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. However, its chain contains Suwayd bin Abd al-Aziz, a da'if (weak) narrator, and since it is not established that Yazid bin Marthad heard from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), this report is munqati' (broken) and da'if (weak) in its chain.
