It is narrated from Yazid bin al-Asamm that Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) became gravely ill in Makkah while none of her sister's sons was with her at the time. She said: "Take me out of Makkah, for I will not die here; the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told me that my death would not be in Makkah." So the people took her to the place called Sarif, to the tree where the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had consummated his marriage with her and where the tent had been pitched (at the time of the wedding), and there she passed away. The narrator says: When we lowered her into the lahd (the niche of the grave), I took my cloak and placed it under her cheek in the grave, but Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) took hold of it and threw it out.
Imam Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it in the chapter on the virtues and merits of Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her).
