وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ ، حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ مُنْيَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَرْزَةَ الْأَسْلَمِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تِسْعُ نِسْوَةٍ ، فَقَالَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا : خَيْرُكُنَّ أَطْوَلُكُنَّ يَدًا ، فَقَامَتْ كُلُّ وَاحِدَةٍ تَضَعُ يَدَهَا عَلَى الْجِدَارِ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : لَسْتُ أَعْنِي هَذَا ، وَلَكِنْ أَصْنَعَكُنَّ يَدَيْنِ .
4111 \ 2 - وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ بِهَذَا .

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Barzah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had nine pure wives. One day he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The best of you is the one whose hand is the longest." On hearing this, each of the honoured wives stood up and began placing her hand against the wall (to measure it). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained, saying: "I do not mean this (physical length); rather (what is meant is) the one of you who is foremost in working with her hands and in giving charity."
And Imam Abu Ya'la said: Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah narrated this hadith to us with this same chain.
