وَأَقْبَلَ الْقَوْمُ قِبَلَ تَمَرَاتٍ يَأْكُلُونَهَا .. فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فِي التَّمْرِ الْبَرْنِيِّ .

Hud al-Asari narrates from his grandfather Mazidah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was talking with his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) when suddenly he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A party of riders from the best of the people of the East is about to appear before you from this mountain pass." Hearing this, Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and set off in that direction. There he met thirteen riders; he welcomed them and greeted them warmly, then asked: "Who are you?" They replied: "We are people of the tribe of Abd al-Qays." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "What has brought you to this region? Have you come for trade?" They said: "No." Then he asked: "Do you want to sell these swords of yours?" They replied: "No." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Perhaps you have come only in search of this person (the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him))?" They said: "Yes." So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) walked with them, talking with them, until, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came into view, he said to them: "This is the companion of yours whom you are seeking." As soon as they heard this, those people leapt down from their mounts; some of them ran, some hurried, and some walked, until they came into the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). They took hold of his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed hand and began to kiss it, and they sat down with him (peace and blessings be upon him). But al-Ashajj (of Abd al-Qays) stayed behind; he was the youngest of them. He first made the camels kneel, tied their hobbles, gathered everyone's belongings, and then, walking with great composure and dignity, came into the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), took hold of his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed hand and kissed it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are two qualities in you which Allah Almighty and His Messenger love." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, what are they?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Forbearance and deliberateness." He said: "Are they in me by nature, or have I developed them myself?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, they are part of your innate disposition from birth." He said: "Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi jabalani 'ala ma yuhibbullahu wa rasuluh" (Praise be to Allah, who created me with the natural qualities that Allah and His Messenger love). Then those people turned to some dates and began to eat them (the narrator mentioned the rest of the hadith concerning Barni dates).
The name of Hud's grandfather is Mazidah. Imam Abu Ya'la narrated this hadith.
