Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 4089 — Reports about Abu Uthman al-Nahdi

It is narrated from Asim al-Ahwal that Subayh asked Abu Uthman al-Nahdi (may Allah have mercy on him), while I was also present and listening. He asked: "Did you live in the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied: "Yes, I had accepted Islam in the very era of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I also paid charity (zakah) from my wealth three times to his (peace and blessings be upon him) (agents); however, I was not able to meet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in person. Moreover, I took part in several expeditions during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), among them I was personally present at the conquests of al-Qadisiyyah, Jalula', Nahawand, al-Yarmuk, Adharbayjan, Mihran and Rustam (on those fronts). (As a result of these conquests Allah Almighty granted such prosperity that) we would eat pure ghee and leave aside fat and the like (out of distaste)." The narrator says: Then I asked him about (the ruling on) vessels, and he said: "In that time no question was asked about them." That is, he meant asking about vessels used by the polytheists.
The chain of this athar (report) is sahih (authentic), and it is mentioned in Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah.
