It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us while we were in the mosque, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) had tied a strip of cloth around his blessed head; this was during the illness of his (peace and blessings be upon him) final days, in which he passed away. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) moved towards the pulpit, and we followed him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul, I am at this very moment standing at the Pool (al-Kawthar)." Then he related the full hadith, in which the virtue of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) is mentioned, and at its end it is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then came down from the pulpit, and after that (until his passing) he did not stand on the pulpit again.
Imam Ibn Abi Shaybah narrated it in al-Musannaf (3859), and its chain is hasan (good).
