حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ ، ثَنَا نُوحٌ ، عَنْ أَخِيهِ خَالِدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، فِي قَوْلِهِ تَعَالَى : وَطَلْحٍ مَنْضُودٍ قَالَ : الْمَوْزُ .
It is narrated from Imam Qatadah (may Allah have mercy on him) concerning the explanation of the statement of Allah Almighty: "And talh (trees) layered (with fruit)" [Surah al-Waqi'ah: 29], that he said: "It refers to the banana tree."
The chain of this report is hasan (good); Imam Ibn Jarir al-Tabari also related it in his Tafsir, and according to the lexicographers and exegetes 'talh' means a tree whose fruit grows in layers, that is, the banana.
