It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman al-Farisi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the people of a religion with whom I used to live (before accepting Islam), and I mentioned before him (peace and blessings be upon him) their prayers, their fasting, and their asceticism and worship. Then this blessed saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, was revealed: 'Indeed, those who have believed, and those who became Jews, and the Sabians, and the Christians, and the Magians' [Surah al-Hajj: 17], up to this saying of Allah Almighty: 'Witness' [Surah al-Hajj: 17]."
Ibn Abi Umar transmitted this report in his Musnad. Its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy); however, Mujahid's hearing from Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) is not established, but on the basis of other corroborating reports its meaning is sound.
