قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحِيمِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كُرَيْبٍ ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا أَدْرِي عُزَيْرٌ كَانَ نَبِيًّا أَمْ لَا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not know (for certain) whether Uzayr (peace be upon him) was a prophet or not."
Imam Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded this hadith in his al-Musannaf (3460), and a narration with the same meaning is also reported from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sunan Abi Dawud (4674) and Mustadrak al-Hakim (3975), which the hadith scholars have graded sahih (authentic).
