It is narrated from Abu Attaf (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: "It was the state of Dawud (blessings and peace be upon him) that whenever he brought the vessel close to his blessed mouth to drink and his slip came to his mind, he would weep so intensely that the vessel would fill and overflow with the abundance of his tears."
Imam Musaddad bin Musarhad recorded this report in his Musnad; all the narrators of its chain are thiqat (trustworthy), but since Abu Attaf is a Successor (Tabi'i), this narration is mursal.
