قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ جُدْعَانَ ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : كَانَتْ لِلْعَبَّاسِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ دَارٌ قَرِيبَةٌ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَسَأَلَهُ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ : أَعْطِنِيهَا - أَوْ بِعْنِيهَا - لِأُدْخِلَهَا الْمَسْجِدَ ، فَأَبَى ، وَقَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : فَاجْعَلْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَجَعَلَ أُبَيَّ بْنَ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، فَقَضَى عَلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ رِضْوَانُ اللهِ عَلَيْهِ : إِنَّكَ لَمِنْ أَجْرَأِ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : أَوْ مِنْ أَنْصَحِهِمْ لَكَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " لَوْ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ أُمِرَ بِبِنَاءِ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ فَأَدْخَلَ بُيُوتًا بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ أَهْلِهَا ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ الْبِنَاءُ حُجَزَ الرِّجَالِ مُنِعَ بِنَاءَهُ ، فَقَالَ : أَيْ رَبِّ ، فَفِي عَقِبِي مِنْ بَعْدِي .
3458 \ 2 - أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، أَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ نَحْوَهُ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : فَقَالَ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : لَمَّا أَرَادَ ... الْحَدِيثَ .
3458 \ 2 - أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، أَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ نَحْوَهُ ، وَقَالَ فِيهِ : فَقَالَ أُبَيُّ بْنُ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : لَمَّا أَرَادَ ... الْحَدِيثَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) had a house right next to the Prophet's Mosque. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him for it (to expand the mosque), saying: "Give this house to me (as a gift), or sell it to me, so that I may include it in the mosque." He refused, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Then appoint someone from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (as arbiter) between me and you." So he accepted Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) as judge, and he gave his judgement against Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) (in favour of Sayyiduna al-Abbas). At this Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Indeed, you are the boldest of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "O Commander of the Believers, or rather I am the most sincere and well-wishing towards you." Then he said (in support of his judgement): "If only you knew that when Dawud (peace be upon him) was commanded to build Bayt al-Maqdis, he included some houses in it without the permission of their owners; then when the building reached the height of men's waistbands, he was prevented from building it further. At this he said: 'Ay Rabbi, fa-fi 'aqibi min ba'di' (O my Lord, then decree (the honour of completing it) for my descendants after me)."
Imam Abd al-Razzaq narrated something similar to this hadith through Ma'mar and Zayd bin Aslam, and in it are these words: Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: When he (Dawud (peace be upon him)) intended" (and he narrated the complete hadith).
Imam Abd al-Razzaq narrated something similar to this hadith through Ma'mar and Zayd bin Aslam, and in it are these words: Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: When he (Dawud (peace be upon him)) intended" (and he narrated the complete hadith).
