حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى ، ثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزَّاهِرِيَّةِ ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي ثَعْلَبَةَ الْخُشَنِيِّ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَلَقَ اللهُ تَعَالَى الْجِنَّ عَلَى ثَلَاثَةِ أَثْلَاثٍ : ثُلُثٌ لَهُمْ أَجْنِحَةٌ يَطِيرُونَ فِي الْهَوَاءِ ، وَثُلُثٌ حَيَّاتٌ وَكِلَابٌ ، وَثُلُثٌ يَحُلُّونَ وَيَظْعَنُونَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, created the jinn in three groups: one third have wings and fly in the air; one third are in the form of snakes and dogs; and one third are those who halt (in settlements, like human beings) and move from place to place."
Al-Hakim recorded this hadith in al-Mustadrak, and al-Albani declared it sahih (authentic).
