قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ رُزَيْقٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الْأَعْمَى ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا أَصَابَهُ شِدَّةٌ وَدَعَا رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى يُرَى بَيَاضُ إِبْطَيْهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna al-Bara' bin Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that "whenever some severe hardship or distress afflicted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated, he would raise both his blessed hands so high that the whiteness of his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed armpits became visible."
Imam Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili recorded this hadith in his Musnad, but its chain contains a narrator named Nufay' bin al-Harith (Abu Dawud al-A'ma), who is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith) and severely da'if (weak) according to the hadith scholars; therefore this narration is weak in terms of its chain.
