It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Shall I not teach you the words that Jibril (peace be upon him) taught me?" I said: Of course, O Messenger of Allah (please teach me). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Make this supplication: 'Allahumma ighfir li khatayaya wa amdi wa hazli wa jiddi, wa la tahrimni barakata ma a'taytani, wa la taftinni bima haramtani' (O Allah, forgive me my mistakes, and also the sins I committed deliberately, and those (that came from me) in jest or in seriousness; do not deprive me of the blessing of what You have given me, and do not put me into trial and temptation because of the blessing You have withheld from me)."
This narration is from al-Mustadrak of al-Hakim, and Imam al-Hakim declared its chain sahih (authentic).
