It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mounted the pulpit and said three times: "Amin, Amin, Amin." It was said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when you mounted the pulpit you said "Amin" three times; what is the reason for that? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Truly, Jibril (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and said: 'May that person be deprived of Allah's mercy who found the month of Ramadan and was not forgiven, then (dying in that state) entered the Fire; may Allah Almighty keep him far from His mercy. Say: Amin.' So I said: 'Amin (O Allah, let it be so).' 'And the person who found his parents, or one of them, and did not treat them with kindness, then died and entered the Fire; may Allah keep him far from His mercy. Say: Amin.' So I said: 'Amin.' 'And the person in whose presence you were mentioned and he did not send blessings upon you, then died and fell into the Fire of Hell; may Allah Almighty keep him far from His presence. Say: Amin.' So I said: 'Amin.'"
The chain of this hadith is hasan (good); Imam Abu Ya'la recorded it in his Musnad, and its supporting narrations are found in other books of hadith, including the two Sahihs, which raise it to the level of sahih (authentic).
