وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ ، عَنْ بُرْدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ ، عَنْ غُضَيْفِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ : أَتَيْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ ، فَقُلْتُ : إِنَّا نَخْرُجُ فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ ، وَلِي [بِنَاءٌ] فِيهِ صِغَرٌ ، [فَإِنْ] صَلَّيْتُ فِيهِ كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ بِحِذَائِي ، وَإِنْ خَرَجْتُ قَرَرْتُ ، قَالَ : اقْطَعْ بَيْنَكُمَا بِثَوْبٍ ثُمَّ صَلِّ كَيْفَ شِئْتَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ghudayf bin al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with him): I came to the Commander of the Faithful, Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and submitted: "We set out every year (for jihad or travel), and there I have a small shelter or tent to stay in. Now if I pray inside it despite this narrowness, my wife stands right at my side, level with me; and if I go outside (to perform the prayer), I shiver from the severity of the cold." At this, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Place a screen of cloth or a sheet between the two of you, then pray however you wish (with ease)."
The chain of this narration is hasan (good), and Imam Musaddad transmitted it in his Musnad.
