Al-Matalib al-'Aliyah 3251 — The virtue of weeping out of fear

It is narrated from Abu Imran al-Jawni (may Allah have mercy on him) that news reached him that Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came into the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was weeping and lamenting (from intense fear). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What has made you weep?" He said: "By Allah! Since Allah Almighty created Hell, my eyes have never become dry (out of fear), for fear that I might disobey Him and He would hurl me into it."
Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it in Kitab "al-Zuhd" (3251).
