قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : قُلْتُ لِأَبِي أُسَامَةَ : أَحَدَّثَكُمْ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : قِيلَ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ : مَا لَكَ تَرَكْتَ مُجَاوَرَةَ قَبْرِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَاوَرْتَ الْمَقَابِرَ يَعْنِي الْبَقِيعَ ؟ فَقَالَ : وَجَدْتُهُمْ جِيرَانَ صِدْقٍ ، يُكَفِّرُونَ السَّيِّئَةَ وَيُذَكِّرُونَ الْآخِرَةَ ؟
فَأَقَرَّ بِهِ أَبُو أُسَامَةَ وَقَالَ : نَعَمْ .
فَأَقَرَّ بِهِ أَبُو أُسَامَةَ وَقَالَ : نَعَمْ .
Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Umar bin Ali bin Abi Talib narrates from his father (Muhammad bin Umar) that Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked: "What is the reason that you have given up living near the blessed resting place of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and taken up residence in the vicinity of the common graveyard, that is, al-Baqi'?" He replied: "I have found these people of the graves to be very true and sincere neighbours; they are a means of restraining from evil deeds and they remind of the Hereafter."
