وَقَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، ثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ بُدَيْلِ بْنِ وَرْقَاءَ ، قَالَ : أَتَيْنَا الزُّهْرِيَّ فَأَمَرَ بِنَا فَطُرِدْنَا ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْنَا فَجِئْنَا ، فَحَدَّثَنَا قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ تَمِيمٍ ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " يَا نَعَايَا الْعَرَبِ ثَلَاثًا إِنَّ أَخْوَفَ مَا أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمُ الرِّيَاءُ وَالشَّهْوَةُ الْخَفِيَّةُ " .
Abbad bin Tamim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his paternal uncle, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zayd bin Asim (may Allah be pleased with him), that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say three times: "O you who announce the ruin and destruction of the Arabs! (Beware!) Indeed, what I fear most for you is showing off and hidden desire." (The narrator of the hadith) Abdullah bin Budayl bin Warqa' relates that we came to Imam al-Zuhri, and (at first) he ordered us to leave, so we were sent away; then he sent for us, so we came, and he narrated this hadith to us.
